Post Focus: General
Skill Level: Beginner
First things first... As you'll notice, I'm hot and cold on posting. Sometimes you'll see regular posts every week or so. Other times, like this, you'll see a month or so in between. I try not to post unless I've got something (ideally) worth reading. In addition to that, patch 4.2 has kept me very busy lately. Number 1 reason why?? An ass-ton of daily quests to unlock new crap.
I can't tell you how much I hate dailies. I have 4 level 85 characters that I'm churning through these dailies with. They end up taking my entire evening working through and it leaves me with little time for running heroics or even working the AH to the fullest effect.
Fortunately, I've still been on track with earning roughly 30k gold per month. I started in to gold making in early April of 2011 and now as of early July, I'm sitting at just over 100k gold total. With all spending that I've done in that time frame, I'd estimate my earnings at probably 140k gold total which ain't too shabby for a beginner.
My saving grace since 4.2 has been the selling of pets (Cheers to the Gold Queen!). My Mage/Engineer has been the bread winner since patch 4.2 landed due to the fact that he can zip around, grab vendor pets and craft several.
Here's a current summary of what's been selling for me in general.
What's Selling:
1. Mage/Engineer. Pets definitely take the top spot in profit over the last couple of weeks. I'm not even trying that hard at it. I've been selling the three Dalaran vendor pets (Albino Snake, Calico Cat and Obsidium Hatchling) primarily. I've been buying them at 35g and flipping them on the AH for anywhere from 75g to 175g depending on competition. Usually 2-3 of these sell per day. Undercut everyone and post them for 12 hours due to the high competition and expensive deposits. They sell pretty quick.
The other pets that I've been crafting and selling are the De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion and the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti. Both of these pets (especially the Yeti) don't cost a whole lot to craft and sell for 450g to 1200g. I never post mine less than 700g and will hold on to them during low price periods to help keep the price high. The Yeti's consistently go for 980g and my competition is smart enough to only undercut me by a few copper so the price stays high and we all win. I'll typically sell one of these every 2 days or so.
The total income from pets is pretty nice as a result. Even better, there's very little work involved.
2. Blacksmith/Miner. It's pretty much been Greater Eternal Essences. I had made about 100 of them and have been selling off that inventory due to lack of time. More people have gotten in to this market so the days of 36g per item are mostly gone. They've been going at 20-25 and there are usually 40 or so posted at any given time. Occasionally everyones' auctions will time out and I can squeeze a few in there at full price and get a pay day.

I've been saving my Chaos Orbs and Truegold for the new recipes so I haven't been crafting much as a result.
Oh, also Blizzard nerfed my Obsidium Skeleton Key sales by making them require Blacksmithing (425 I think) to use them. Was good while it lasted!
3. Tailor/Enchanter. Cloak Enchants paid off very nicely as 4.2 launched but that's mostly calmed down now. Since then, I haven't been selling much with her and, again, that's mostly due to lack of time. I've still been making Dreamcloth on a casual basis and not sticking tight to the cool down. With those, I've been crafting and selling a few threads which sold for over 1,000g when the patch hit and everyone was rushing to buy new 359 pants with Justice Points.
4. Jewel Crafter/Inscriptionist. She's still been doing well using my method of selling Glyphs that I mentioned in my previous post. I haven't been really hard core about it though so I know I'm missing a lot of potential sales.
On the downside however, some idiot has been really messing with the glyph markets on my server by crafting every glyph he can make and posting them for 12-13 gold each. He'll post 8 or so of them just above cost of the item. No one undercuts him and profit from the majority of glyphs have plummeted. Fortunately, I have several glyphs that he doesn't and have been selling those for between 42g and 170g each so there's still some money to be made.
Homeboy will likely figure out that posting for 12-13g isn't worth his time and will quit at some point. Either way, I'm holding on to those glyphs and will post them (and sell them) later at full price.
On the JC side of things, red gems did very nicely at the launch of 4.2 and I sold several in the 190g range. I didn't go nuts stockpiling stuff so I had about 40 of each color and sold about 10 or so.
What I'm Buying:
1. Not Much. Everything is expensive right now with the exception of Volatile Fires (which, you guessed it, I've got in abundance from doing the dailies with four characters). Plus, with minimal crafting comes minimal requirement. I did find a Book of Glyph Mastery on the AH for a whopping total of 15 gold but that's the only insane deal that I've found since the patch, sadly.
Thanks for stopping by. -GNS
